Vidhansabha Elections 2024: Pune Results Reflect Mahayuti Candidates Leading Multiple Seats

Vidhansabha Elections 2024

Mahayuti cadidates Siddharth Shirole in Shivajinagar, Chandrakant Patil leads by 15,263 votes in Kothrud, Ajit Pawar leads with 21,349 votes from Baramati.

The NCP candidate Chetan Tupe leads in Hadapsar with 12,542 votes. The picture will be clear by around 5pm today.

On Saturday, the vote-counting process for Pune’s 21 seats began at 8:00 a.m. The ruling Mahayuti coalition and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance faced off in last week’s single-phase elections for the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly.

Ten of the region’s 21 assembly constituencies are in the remaining rural areas, three are in Pimpri-Chinchwad, and eight are in Pune city. According to data given by the Election Commission, voter turnout in the Pune district increased in almost every constituency, reaching 61.05%.

The BJP presently controls five of the Pune city Assembly seats. These include Bhimrao Tapkir in Khadakwasla, Madhuri Misal in Parvati, Sunil Kamble in Pune Cantonment, Siddhartha Shirole in Shivajinagar, and Chandrakant Patil in Kothrud. The affiliated NCP holds two seats: Chetan Tupe in Hadapsar and Sunil Tingre in Vadgaon Sheri. The seat of Kasba Peth is occupied by Congressman Ravindra Dhangekar.

In the meantime, Ajit Pawar will run against his nephew Yugendra Pawar in Baramati, the Pawar family’s stronghold. As a member of the unified NCP under Sharad Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister has won the Baramati seat on multiple occasions since 1991.

While some have raised the prospect of a close race in which no party wins a definite majority, the majority of exit polls have projected a victory for the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP coalition.
